From the mother of a girl adopted at age 3:Our daughter came home at age 3. The initial adjustment was very easy - she ate well, slept fairly well and tried hard to be a good girl. The only difficulty during the first weeks was that she was terrified of my husband and ONLY wanted me. After a few weeks she began to loosen up and show her true colors - both good and bad. In a lot of ways bonding seemed to come quickly and easily - she has always been very affectionate toward us, for instance. But she did grieve and go through a lot of anger in the first several months home. She is now a delightful, strong-minded girl who is completely at home with us. I wouldn't say that her adjustment was easy, but neither was it overwhelming. And it was every bit worth it! In fact, I'd love to do another toddler adoption when finances permit.
